Staying safe

  • Grenada is a safe country and enjoys the lowest crime rate in the Caribbean region. Please keep it that way by safeguarding valuables and not flashing bling.
  • Beware of the sun. Grenada is only 12 degrees north of the equator and you can burn quickly even if it's cloudy and the breeze is keeping you cool. Seek the shade, use a parasol, wear a wide…
  • Allow for the high humidity: it can top 90%, and anything above 60% is unpleasant. Drink plenty of water (the tap water is safe), though on humid days your sweat cannot evaporate quickly to keep your body cool.
  • Mosquitoes are more of a nuisance than a danger: it's rare for them to carry serious diseases such as malaria.
  • Your accommodation will know of local primary care doctors available to make house calls.

Real talk

What travelers actually say

Travelers who have spent time in Grenada consistently report a high sense of personal safety and a low crime rate. The island is described as welcoming, with friendly locals and a notable absence of scammers. Visitors find it safe to explore less touristy areas independently, and the overall environment lacks the exclusionary, resort-heavy vibe found elsewhere in the Caribbean. There are no specific warnings regarding violent crime, transport dangers, or common tourist scams. The consensus is that Grenada offers a comfortable balance of accessibility and local integration, making it a reliable choice for those who prioritize safety while seeking an authentic experience outside of private, all-inclusive bubbles.

In particular we felt like the balance of lowish prices, low crime rate/feeling of safety/everyone being intensely friendly, and the island not being intensely touristy or excluding locals were all excellent.
