Entry requirements

☐ Visitors to Yemen must obtain a visa from one of the Yemeni diplomatic missions unless they come from one of the visa countries whose citizens may obtain a visa on arrival. Until January 2010, Yemen had a visa on arrival policy for some 50 nations.

• ☐ Money: The currency of the country is the Yemeni rial (YER or ﷼). Banknotes circulate in denominations of 50, 100, 200, 250, 500 and 1000 rials, and coins in denominations of 10, 20, 50 and 100 rials. The rial is freely convertible and subject to frequent fluctuations.

Laws that could get a tourist arrested

• ☐ Public alcohol consumption — The public consumption of alcohol is punishable under Islamic law.
• ☐ Homosexual acts — Homosexual acts are prohibited and carry a potential death penalty.
• ☐ City limits border pass — A city limits border pass is required for travel outside of cities because only city areas are well protected by the military.
